Jessica’s birth story.

I thought for sure Jessica would could at least 1 week early.  Grandma Barclay only had a few days that she could come and help me before she had to fly to Virginia for Kayla’s graduation, so we were hoping that Jessica would come so that Grandma could spend some time helping me with the baby.  Grandma Barclay flew in on the 8th of May and we thought for sure I would have the baby because I was contracting off and on all day and they were consistently about every 30 minutes.  Every night for a few days in a row I would have hard contractions that were very consistent, but then every morning they would slow down and no baby.
The night before Jessica was born I had pretty hard contractions every 10 minutes apart.  Then they got closer to every 7 minutes apart.  So, mom got out of bed and put her makeup on and put the last minute things in the bag and decided to wait until the contractions were 5 minutes apart.  But then 6:00 am came and the contractions were actually slowing down.  So, I got out of bed and went outside for a light jog/walk.  Then I came back and walked back and forth downstairs while I waited for everybody to wake up. My contractions had pretty much stopped by then.
Steve and I decided to go to the hospital just to make sure that the baby was ok, because I had been having hard contractions all night.  After almost an hour of paper work we were finally checked in. The triog nurse told me I was dilated to a 5, almost 6.  She said I could stay and walk the halls for a little bit if I wanted and then decide if I wanted to be admitted or not.  Steve and I walked the halls for an hour and yes I did have some very hard contractions, but they still were not consistent.  So, I went back and she checked me and I was a 6 almost 7.
I was really hungry and really wanted Kneaders french toast which was right by the hospital, so I got dressed because we wanted to get breakfast first and then come back.  However while getting dressed I had two really hard contractions and I knew I was in full on labor.  I hurried and got dressed back into the hospital gown.  They called my doctor who was at his granddaughters birthday party and he rushed back.  I walked into the delivery room and had a few contractions on the bed.  I told my doctor he could break my water because then he might be able to hurry back to his granddaughter's birthday party.  He broke my water, I had two contractions and I knew it was time to push.  My doctor did a fantastic job of stretching me and using oils or water or something.  It hurt like it always does, but it was only a few pushes and Jessica was out.  The nurses couldn't believe that I had walked myself to the delivery room and had the baby 30 minutes later.  Her eyes were kind of swollen and it may have been because she came so fast or that she was in the birth canal for a few days.  Either way, she was healthy and looked almost identical to Andrea when Andrea was a newborn.  I was able to come home from the hospital on Mother's Day with a perfect little baby. 6lbs. 10 oz. 19 in long.  The exact same size as my other two girls. How crazy is that.  I had 3 babies all the same size!
